The goal of Pets in the Classroom grants is to support pets or an aquarium in the classroom for the purposes of teaching children to bond with and care for their pets responsibly. These grants are offered to Pre-K through 8th Grade classes in both public and private schools only. Home school settings do not qualify for grants at this time.
The welfare of the pets involved is of paramount importance. These grants must not be used for research or experiments of any kind.
Grants are available in the following categories through your local PetSmart store:
Hamster, Guinea Pig, Fish, Leopard Gecko and Bearded Dragon.

If you are seeking a classroom pet in another category not offered as one of the grants above, you may apply for a Pets in the Classroom Rebate Grant, redeemable at any pet store.
Teachers may re-apply for a sustaining grant each fall. To apply for a sustaining grant, complete the Pets in the Classroom Sustaining Grant Application form. Grants certificates are not transferable.
All grants are administered through the Pet Care Trust. Only one Grant through the entire Pet Care Trust Pets in the Classroom program per teacher, per school year is permitted.
Grant approval is at the sole discretion of the Pet Care Trust.
Grants approved through the PetSmart Pets in the Classroom program are redeemable only at your local PetSmart store.
*The Bearded Dragon starter kit will have an out-of pocket cost incurred by the teacher. This terrarium kit will house an adult Bearded Dragon, so your pet will not require another home as it gets older.
