Our in-store adoption program—in collaboration with PetSmart Charities and nearly 2,000 animal welfare organizations across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico—has saved the lives of more than 5 million cats and dogs since 1994.
PetSmart and PetSmart Charities work together to screen adoption agencies for their qualifications to arrange adoptions at your local store.
PetSmart Charities grants funds to the agency that you adopt from to offset their adoption-preparation expenses.
PetSmart gives you an Adoption Kit with more than $200 in discounts on products and services, including a free bag of Purina Pro Plan dog or cat food to help you get started.
You'll get $20 off PetSmart Accredited Training as part of your Adoption Kit because training is a great way to help your pet enjoy a smooth transition into your home.
All PetSmart stores provide space for adoptions. Cats are available every day in store, while in most stores dogs are available on weekends. Select stores also feature Everyday Adoption Centers, which are larger spaces where both dogs and cats can be adopted every day.
Call your local store to find information on adoptable cats and dogs.
Before pets are placed for adoption, the local agency typically charges a fee. This fee may cover the basic health assessment, vaccinations, and sometimes a spay or neuter. For each adoption, PetSmart Charities grants funding to the agency to further offset costs. PetSmart does not receive these funds.
